Learning by living. Teaching through doing.
Cala Cainnte | Language Haven* is a place where Gaelic can live, thrive, and grow in Nova Scotia. The project brings together professionals invested in the research, development and delivery of the Gàidhlig aig Baile | Gaelic in the Home (GAB) immersion methodology. We support Gaelic learners and educators throughout the province, creating spaces where GAB lives and is nurtured - by, with and for - community.
*Formerly known as the Gàidhlig aig Baile Institute
Cala Cainnte will focus on three broad areas of impact:
Offering home-based immersion programs to create new speakers quickly
Providing training and professional development for Gaelic Nova Scotia and beyond
training new tutors/teachers
supporting current tutors/teachers
Conducting social learning research, continuing development of GAB, and completing evaluation/assessments of programming and methodology
We are excited to announce An Àirigh | The Shieling our new live-in immersion program, running from October 2025 - February 2026. 8-10 participants will live for four months alongside skilled instructors and facilitators in a shared home in Eastern Nova Scotia (exact location tbd).
